Summary

The GhostBed Ghost Pillow is constructed using memory foam with a phase change material coating for a cooling feel. The foam has a nice feel and slow response which is great for pressure relief. Additionally, the foam has a slight mint scent to it. This pillow comes in one size (23″ x 16″ x 6″) which is good for back and side sleepers.

Initial Thoughts / Unboxing

Upon unboxing, the pillow was situated under tissue paper and a protective cloth sleeve. The GhostBed GhostPillow does have a slight mint-like smell when you initially take it out of the box.

Detailed Analysis

The GhostBed Ghost Pillow comes in one standard size. It has a unique temperature regulating coating applied to the foam core. This coating is a phase change material which removes heat from the surface of the pillow making for a cooling effect that keeps the temperature at a more neutral point for the sleeper. The coating is cool to the touch which helps mitigate heat retention  The core is a slow response gel-based, memory foam which is good for pressure relief. The core has large airflow holes to give you a burst of cool air when you initially place your head on the pillow. These holes also help maintain a better temperature and breathability of the memory foam. Lastly, The fabric is made of 97% polyester and 3% spandex. The spandex gives the cover some stretch while still maintaining the breathability and durability of the fabric.

Support ( C – Stomach; A – Back; A – Side )

Having one standard size makes it difficult to be perfect for all sleepers, so we found the GhostBed Ghost Pillow is best for back and side sleepers. The pillow is approximately 5.5″ in height which allows back and side sleepers the support they need for alignment of the head, neck, and spine. Based on our firmness scale (view our firmness scale), the GhostBed Ghost Pillow is a 7. This means the pillow is on the firmer side. The firmness combined with the height of the pillow don’t make it great for most stomach sleepers.

Durability ( A )

We found no issues with the durability of the cover, inner cover, or pillow core through our testing. We saw normal wear on the cover from use and washing. The pillow returns to its original shape, time-after-time. Lastly, the coating didn’t flake off or peel off in our testing period.

Comfort ( A )

Memory foam has a slow response time, so it cradles the head and neck for pressure relief. As with anything memory foam, it has a sinking/doughy comfort. Additionally, the cooling coating adds some temperature comfort to the pillow.

Subjective Thoughts

Temperature regulating coating applied to a gel memory foam core create a pillow that has the memory foam feel without the excessive heat. This coating is cool to the touch to help mitigate heat retention by the memory foam. Additionally, the core has large ventilation holes to provide breathability for a better sleeping climate. The Ghost Pillow is made in China, is shipped for free, and has a 101-night sleep trial. One thing to note, you can feel the embroidered logo that is on the cover of the pillow through when you head is on it. This is a minor con as you can just flip the pillow, flip the cover, or not even use the cover. This doesn’t diminish the fact that this pillow is great for people who want pressure relief, a memory foam pillow, and temperature regulation.
